The Art of Shopping for Antiques

Shopping for antiques can be really fun. There are so many places and ways you can go shopping for antiques. When you obtain your first antique, whether it is by inheritance, gift, trade or purchase, if you get the bug to have more, you need to figure out how to go shopping for antiques. There are actually more ways to do your shopping when you are looking for antiques, even though there might not be as many "stores" selling antiques, there are other venues created for or adapted for their purchase and sale.

In the traditional vein of shopping, such as specialty stores and malls, antiques are marketed just like any other product. And these are both excellent places to go when you are shopping for your antiques. If your antiques shopping is for personal reasons such as for home decorating or to expand your wardrobe, then these places are great places to start. Shopping for antique furniture, for instance is lots of fun in the antique malls. Each booth in an antique mall represents the wares of a different antiques dealer so you can often see examples of many styles of antique furniture under one roof. Everything from primitive to Louis the XV to mission style could be represented in one antiques mall. In the single antiques shop that has one owner, you are more likely to find a large collection of one particular period or style of antique furniture so either approach to shopping for antiques will give you a selection and an education.

If you are shopping for antiques that you want to wear, like jewelry, you might try looking in the better jewelry shops, the kind you find in the downtown area. There you might discover an estates counter or cabinet filled with great articles of antique jewelry and don't be surprised if the prices are lower than you would expect for an equivalent piece (if there is such a thing...) because to some minds antique or estate jewelry is "used" and is sometimes priced as such even though the quality might be superior to new.

If you like to do your shopping from the comfort of your home, then shopping for antiques will be no different for you. Antiques online are abundant, to say the least. If you Google the kind of antique you are looking for, not only will specific sites come up in your search with the kinds of antiques you are shopping for, but the eBay site will most likely come up and you can go there and browse
