Antiques is a term with wide meanings. Antiques fall into more categories than can be easily listed. There are antiques of every size and description. If it is old enough to be an antique, then just about anything qualifies. And if you have it, you can sell it. Selling antiques is big business. People are selling antiques in many arenas these days. A few decades ago when someone was selling his antiques, he wasn't getting much for them. Selling antiques usually meant you were cleaning out the attic or barn of some old, unwanted junk to make room for some new versions of the same. But selling antiques now is a different story. As antiques became more and more popular for home decorating, and hobby collectors, the antiques became a little scarcer and the prices started to rise. Now you might pay several thousand dollars for a mission style, oak partner's desk that thirty years ago you could have purchased at an auction in upstate New York for a dollar. Times have changed big time in antiques ville.

Selling antiques can be a hobby or a full time job. Buying the antiques you will eventually be selling can be challenging and time consuming. Some antiques sellers have "Pickers" out in the world searching for their next great buy. The antiques seller then purchases the item from the "picker", cleans it up, marks it up and resells it through whatever means he has chosen. Selling antiques can happen in small boutiques, antiques malls, through the newspaper, at garage and estate sales, through online sites like Craigslist or through the big online auction sites like eBay.

Selling antiques might happen for anyone if they find themselves in the position of cleaning out the contents of an old relative who might have moved on and left behind generations of antiques of one kind and another. Selling these antiques is often done by having either an estate or house sale or an on-site auction. If you are not well informed about the value of antiques, before selling family antiques of this nature, call in an expert to get everything appraised before you sell it as if you aren't careful, you might sell a "sleeper" for pennies when it is really worth a fortune.
